Surry Community College will be offering two welding classes starting
in July: Farm Repair and Fabrication and Basic Welding. Tuition
assistance is available for both classes.
Farm Repair and Fabrication
will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 7 through Dec. 10, from
6 to 10 p.m. at The Yadkin Center, 1001 College Drive, Yadkinville.
This course is design to develop skill in SMAW or Stick welding, which
is commonly used for farm equipment repair. Upon completion, students
should be able to perform structural welds on thick carbon steel and
sheet metal welds with various SMAW electrodes. The course is a total of
180 hours. Pre-registration and payment of $183 are required plus a
A Basic Welding Course will
be offered Monday through Thursday, July 13 through Aug. 6, from 8 a.m.
to 2 p.m. at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. This
course introduces basic welding equipment and processes. Topics include
setup, programming, and operation of basic welding and cutting
equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to set up, maintain,
and operate basic GMAW (MIG) and SMAW (Stick) welding equipment and
perform basic welding operations on mild steel. The course is a total of
96 hours. Pre-registration and payment of $183 are required plus a
