Surry CC Offering Industrial Career Classes in July

Surry Community College is offering the following classes in July for those interested in working or advancing their careers in a variety of industries.
A TIG Welding course will be offered July 8 through Aug. 26 on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room S-116 of Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. The course is ideal for anyone looking to learn TIG welding, the gas tungsten arc welding process, or anyone looking to improve upon their current TIG welding skills. Topics include the correct selection of tungsten, polarity, gas, and proper filler rod with an emphasis placed on safety, equipment setup, and welding techniques. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to perform GTAW fillet and groove welds with various electrodes and filler materials. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $127 are required. An Electrical Contractor Renewal class will be offered on Tuesday, July 18 and Thursday, July 20 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Room 107 of The Elkin Center, 1461 N. Bridge St., Elkin. The class offers continuing education units (CEUs) for electricians, which are required yearly in North Carolina for professional tradesmen. The course is offered upon approval of the appropriate licensing board for CEUs toward license renewal and is not sponsored by the boards. Students must have an up-to-date code book.
