Surry CC Offering Continuing Education Welding Classes

Surry Community College is offering continuing education Welding classes starting in August.
Welding: Basic to Advanced will be offered Aug. 14 through Dec. 7. Classes will be held each Monday through Thursday and students can choose to attend class from 8 a.m. to noon, 2 to 6 p.m., or 6 to 10 p.m. The class will prepare students for entry-level SMAW (Stick) and GMAW (MIG) welding employment. In addition to welding safety, this course covers flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead welding positions. Emphasis will be placed on groove and fillet welds on carbon steel plate. Students will learn welding machine set up, welding electrodes, and proper welding techniques and will be prepared for welding qualification welding tests. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $183 are required.
A TIG/MIG Welding course will also be offered for anyone looking to learn the gas tungsten arc (TIG) and gas metal arc (MIG) welding processes. The class will be offered Aug. 19 through Dec. 10. Students will meet each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and each Sunday from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. The class will cover everything from welding safety to selecting the proper filler for each process. Welding will be performed in the flat, horizontal, and vertical positions. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $183 are required.
