SCC Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony


Ceremony Information

The commencement ceremony will be held in the gymnatorium (P building) on the Surry Community College campus in Dobson based on your program of study as outlined below:

Business, Engineering, & Health Sciences Programs

  • Mandatory Practice: Friday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m. (“A” Building Lobby).
  • Ceremony: Saturday, May 11th at 10:00 a.m. (Meet in “A” Building Lobby).
Accounting and Finance, Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration, Automotive Systems, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, Carpentry, Computer Programming and Development, Construction Management, Customer Service Representative, Digital Design, Digital Marketing Certificate, Digital Media, Electrical Systems, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Mechatronics, Medical Billing and Insurance, Medical Office Administration, Network Management, Nursing, Office Administration, Office Finance, Paralegal, Patient Services Representative, Physical Therapist Assistant, Welding.

Arts & Sciences, Agriculture, & Public Service Programs

  • Mandatory Practice: Friday, May 10th @ 1:00 p.m. (“A” Building Lobby).
  • Ceremony: Saturday, May 11th @ 1:00 p.m. (Meet in “A” Building Lobby).
Animal Science, Associate in Arts, Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation, Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts, Associate in General Education, Associate in Science, Associate in Science in Teacher Preparation, Community Spanish Interpreter, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Forensic Science, Early Childhood, Infant/Toddler Care, Sustainable Agriculture Science, Viticulture & Enology, Tasting Room Operations

Graduates must report to the “A” Building Lobby no later than one hour prior to the beginning of the ceremony. It is very important that all graduates arrive on time to check-in and receive commencement routine instructions.

  • Students do not have to wear cap and gown to graduation practice. Dress code is casual.
  • Students may decorate graduation caps for the ceremony.

Graduation Regalia

Regalia can be purchased from the College Bookstore through the morning of the ceremony. The total cost for a cap, gown, and tassel is $59.92 (including tax). Individual caps, gowns, and tassels will be for sale, as well.

Six free invitations are available for each graduating student. Visit the Student Services front desk in A-building to collect those.

Honor Cords

If you are an honor graduate, honor cords will be issued at check-in. There will be no exceptions. Be reminded that honor status is based on your overall SCC GPA, not your program GPA.

  • Inducted members of Global Scholars and/or PTK should consult with their club advisor about the purchase of stoles and/or cords:

Guests & Live Stream

Each graduate is strongly encouraged to invite no more than six guests to the commencement ceremony. Guests are also encouraged to carpool due to limited parking. Seating in the gym will be limited. Once the gym has reached capacity, overflow seating will be available in the Shelton-Badgett NC Center for Viticulture and Enology (SBVE) building to view the livestream. Please note that backpacks are prohibited in the buildings.

If you have not paid your graduation fees, you must do so by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10th.
