Surry Community College is pleased to announce that its Small Business Center (SBC) has reached a record level of achievement and economic impact in all areas of service to the community.
For the second consecutive year (fiscal years 2022 and 2023), the SCC Small Business Center is ranked number one in the Piedmont Triad region in economic impact as measured by the number of new business startups and the number of jobs created and retained that are directly attributable to the college’s work in that area. In the 2021 fiscal year, the SCC Small Business Center was in the top 10 in the state for economic impact among the 58 North Carolina Small Business Centers.
The Piedmont Triad region covers 11 counties including Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Yadkin, Forsyth, Guilford, Alamance, Davie, Davidson, Randolph and Montgomery. Seven Small Business Centers are located throughout the region. The SCC Small Business Center serves Surry County and Yadkin County.
SCC’s Small Business Center is part of the N.C. Small Business Center Network and offers a variety of resources, services, and programs to help start and grow small businesses. This year, the SCC Small Business Center has been responsible for the highest number of new business-starts, number of jobs created, seminars offered, and seminar attendance in its history.
Mark Harden, SCC’s SBC Director, has received a state award from the N.C. Small Business Center Network for his achievements. During his five-year tenure as director, the SBC has been responsible for counseling over 400 clients, while receiving attribution for over 100 new business starts and nearly 300 new jobs. The SBC has also offered over 200 seminars with over 1,400 attendees.
