SCC Offers Emergency Medical Responder Course at Yadkin Center

Surry Community College is offering an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course at The Yadkin Center, beginning Oct. 16.

This course will teach students the basics of emergency medical care from life-threatening medical conditions to major traumatic injuries. Students will complete the course with the abilities to provide basic emergency healthcare.

This course, which runs through Dec. 18, will meet in-person at The Yadkin Center, 1001 College Drive, Yadkinville, N.C., in rooms YA 216/217 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays with three Saturday classes also included. A mandatory orientation will be held on Monday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m., also at The Yadkin Center. The fee for the course is $180.

To attend the class, students must be 17 years of age on or before Dec. 18, 2023, complete a 10th grade written educational reading level assessment which will take place at orientation, and have completed a Traffic Incident Management (TIM) course, which is available online at bit.ly/onlineTIM. Students may also take the TIM course in person at The Yadkin Center through the college’s Fire and Rescue Program, Oct. 9, from 6 to 10 p.m. in room YA-216. This course meets the TIM requirement for the EMR course, as well as the Emergency Vehicle Driving and Emergency Medical Technician courses.
