SCC Offering Personal Enrichment Classes in October

Surry Community College will be starting several classes this October covering a variety of interests and hobbies.

A Painting class will be held at the Elkin Center, 1461 North Bridge St., Elkin,on Tuesdays, Oct. 15 through Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. Pursue your passion or learn something new using watercolor, acrylic or oil paints. Individual and group instruction will be given. This class is suitable for all levels. Pre-registration and pre-payment of a $70 class fee is required. Please ask for a supply list when registering.

Line Dance class will be held each Thursday, Oct. 3 through Oct. 24, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at The Pilot Center, 612 E. Main St., Pilot Mountain. There’s no need to feel left out at weddings and other parties when you can easily learn all the latest line dances in this fun, four-week course with Instructor Pat Adkins. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $35 are required.

Shag Dance lessons will be offered on Thursdays, Oct. 3 through Oct. 24, from 7:45 to 9:15 p.m. at The Pilot Center, 612 E. Main St., Pilot Mountain. With several venues in the area for outdoor concerts and shagging, you won’t regret learning the quintessential summer dance of the Carolinas in this engaging course. The class is suitable for dancers of all levels. Partners are encouraged, but not required. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $35 are required.

Introduction to Radio will be held on Mondays, Oct. 21 through Dec. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mount Airy City Schools Community Central Office, 321 Riverside Drive, Mount Airy. The fundamentals of broadcasting will be taught by veterans of iconic radio station WPAQ in Mount Airy including disc jockey duties, live remote, emcee skills, commercial production, advertising and sales, and more. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $71 are required.

Improving Your Photographic Skills: Student’s Choice will be offered on Tuesdays, Oct. 1 through Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Pilot Center, 612 East Main Street, Pilot Mountain.During this class, the students will experience a “flexible class time” due to the topic and nature of this learning series. Students will meet for the first class to discuss possible topics, and shooting opportunities for the next classes. Students should be equipped with a DSLR camera with interchangeable lenses (more than one lenses is recommended but not required) and a sturdy tripod. Students should be very familiar with the settings on their cameras. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $60 are required.
