Surry Community College will be offering several educational camps this summer for various aged students including a music camp for children and adults.
Electronics Engineering Soldering Workshop Camp will be held June 10 and June 11 at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson, from 9 a.m. to noon for students aged 11-14, and on June 12 and 13 for students aged 15-18. Cost is $30. This two-day camp offers soldering safety and soldering tips for participants. A fun project will be assembled for campers to take home and enjoy.
Science Camp will be held June 19 through June 21 from
9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson, for students who are rising fourth through sixth grades. Cost is $35.
Explore and experience science at its finest during this three-day camp. Campers will go on nature hikes and spend time in the creeks looking for macro-invertebrates after participating in wild-life scavenger hunts.
Global Camp will be held July 15 through July 18 at from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. Students should be risingfourth through sixth graders. Cost is $35.Campers will take a trip around the world in four days. They will explore the language, culture, and customs of these countries.
Forensic Science Summer Camp will be held July 22 through July 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at The Elkin Center, 1461 North Bridge Street, Elkin. Students should be rising eighth through tenth graders. Campers will learn how to take fingerprints and mugshots, how to properly identify tire marks and shoe prints. They will get to investigate staged situations while using their new knowledge to solve age appropriate crime scenes, and more.
Volleyball Camp will be held July 22 through July 25 from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 6-11 with no experience; and from
1 to 4 p.m. for ages 12 and up with one year of experience. The camp will be held at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. Campers of all skill level will work alongside SCC's own volleyball team to obtain skills and practice drills.
Surry Old-Time Music Camp will be held July 29 through Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. Cost is $75 for youth ages 10-17, and $150 for adults ages 18 and up. Beginner to advanced instruction will be offered in Fiddle, Claw Hammer Banjo, Guitar and Stand-up Bass. Other workshops include Bluegrass Banjo, Mountain Dulcimer, String Band along with Jam Sessions, Traditional Singing and Dance classes. The camp is open to children as well as adults.
