SCC Hosts State Cosmetology Conference

Date:

Surry Community College recently hosted the Fall 2022 Conference of the North Carolina Community College Cosmetology Instructors Association at the Shelton-Badgett North Carolina Center for Viticulture and Enology on the Dobson campus.

Brief speakers included Robin Minton, SCC Director of Cosmetology; Dr. David Shockley, SCC President; Ashley Morrison, Dean of Instruction; and Ron Wolfe, President of the North Carolina Community College Cosmetology Instructors Association.

“We were honored to host this statewide conference at Surry Community College,” Minton said. “This is the second time SCC has been the site for this conference. It’s a thrill to meet with our community college counterparts from across the state to discuss regulatory updates and share new teaching techniques.”

Most of the conference time was devoted to Lynda Elliott, Executive Director of the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners, who presented N.C. State Board regulation updates to a crowd of 150 program directors, lead instructors and instructors, representing the 58 community colleges in North Carolina.

North Carolina cosmetology instructors must have eight hours of continuing education per year. Conference participants received a certificate for attendance and hours towards the continuing education requirements to maintain a Cosmetology teacher license.
