A group of faculty and staff from Surry Community College ran in the Habitat Hammer 5K race in Elkin on April 13, and each member of the team medaled either in their age group or overall.
The race benefited the Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity and efforts of outreach within the community.
The SCC team included a variety of college employees from different departments. The following team members won for best overall times: Mark Tucker, Athletic Director; Tara Best, Accounting Instructor; and Mitzi Poore, Lead Instructor, Medical Office Administration and Office Administration.
Other employees who participated in the 5K and medaled (gold, silver, or bronze) in their age groups were: Tony Martin, Vice President of Finance; William Matthews, Lead Computer Technology Services, Technology Services; Stephen Best, Web Editor/Technical Assistant; Rebekah Tilley, Systems Technician; Becky Critz, Biology Instructor; Lesli Faistl, Accounting Instructor; Amber Reid, Physical Education Instructor; Ward Hooker, Economics Instructor; and Rhonda Hazelwood, Director of Training and Auxiliary Services.
“The day allowed for comradery with fellow employees that are distributed all throughout our campus. It was a great day for our college family to come together for such a worthy cause within our community, ” Team Captain Amber Reid said.
