Forrest Lineberry, SCC Vice President of Student Services, welcomed the audience and introduced SCC President Dr. David Shockley who gave the commencement address.

Dr. Shockley encouraged the graduates to be responsible in their life choices. In addition to noting that they had already made wise choices by furthering their education at Surry Community College, he commented, “Take responsibility of your choices and own them. Don’t allow others to take control of the responsible choices you make, and don’t be afraid to take the path less taken. Embrace the attitude of sacrifice and work, because anything worth having is worth work and sacrifice, and this will lead to ever changing choices that ultimately lead to peace and joy in life.”
