Seven students earning Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degrees from Surry Community College displayed artwork along with other current art students at the Spring Art Show held in May. Each student displayed a series of works in different mediums including pencil, clay, mixed media, painting, and photography.
“Katie Britt of Ronda graduated after the show and will be continuing her studies at another school. Our graduates usually transfer to senior institutions and major in studio art or art education, ” explains Anna-Olivia Sisk, SCC Lead Art Instructor.
Other students participating in the show were: Carly Shaw, Lane Roundy, Kayla Feeney, and Steven Anderson of Mount Airy; Alexis Whitaker of Jonesville; and Anthony Shumate of Ararat.

The Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts program at Surry Community College focuses heavily on the visual fine arts and is recommended for those who plan to continue their education at a senior institution. Surry's program prepares transfer students to meet selective admission criteria for acceptance into a Bachelor in Fine Arts or Bachelor in Visual Arts program.
The course work in this program consists of Universal General Education Transfer Component courses (UGETC) in literature, humanities, social/behavioral sciences, mathematics and natural science. Students in this program are provided an opportunity to concentrate in a major area of fine art study that includes elective choices in drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and digital photography.
