Psychology Students Learn from RidgeCrest Residents

Date:

Surry Community College Developmental Psychology students visited residents at RidgeCrest, a premier life plan retirement community in Mount Airy, and participated in a multi-generational panel. One resident claimed it was better than learning from any textbook.

“The college students were studying physical, cognitive, and social/personality development in late adulthood, ” explains SCC Psychology Instructor Heather Willard. “A big portion of our coursework includes examining the changes in physical capabilities as people age, the changes in how individuals think in late adulthood and how personality, living arrangements, and relationships may change or remain the same over time. We are grateful to the staff and residents at RidgeCrest for letting us visit. ”

Registration for summer and fall classes at Surry Community College begins April 8 for new curriculum students. The college is offering a Spring Open House Series for prospective students with chances to win scholarship money. Go to www.surry.edu to learn more.
