Paralegal Program Offers Night Classes and New Certificates

The Paralegal Technology program has two night classes offered for Fall 2019 along with two new certificates.

LEX-160 Criminal Law is scheduled for Monday nights from 6 to 8:50 p.m. and LEX-120 Legal Research I will be held on Tuesday nights from 6 to 9:50 p.m. Both classes will also continue to be offered in day sections. 

Two new Paralegal Technology certificates are being offered starting Fall 2019 – Paralegal Technology Real Property Concentration Certificate and the Paralegal Technology Litigation Concentration Certificate.

The Paralegal Technology Real Property Concentration Certificate requires six classes. For the Fall semester: LEX-110 Introduction to Paralegal; LEX-120 Legal Research & Writing I; and LEX-210 Real Property I. For the Spring semester: LEX 150 Commercial Law; LEX-211 Real Property II; and LEX-250 Wills, Trusts, Estates.  

The Paralegal Technology Litigation Concentration Certificate requires six classes. For the Fall semester: LEX-240 Family Law; LEX-120 Legal Research & Writing I; and LEX-160 Criminal Law. For the Spring semester: LEX-130 Civil Injuries; LEX-140 Civil Litigation I; and LEX-280 Ethics. 

Both Paralegal Technology certificates are available to high school juniors and seniors through the Career & College Promise tuition-free, dual enrollment program starting in Fall 2019. 

Surry Community College is designated as a Qualified Paralegal Studies Program by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification. SCC offers a two-year Associate in Applied Science degree in Paralegal Technology.
