Elijah "Eli" Bill Brown – Employee & Alumni Spotlight

Elijah "Eli" Bill Brown began working as the Yadkin Early College Liaison in March 2020 at Surry Community College.

He worked as an administrative assistant at the front desk of SCC’s Student Services, both as a Student Ambassador and as a part-time employee, for almost two years.

“My position as a Student Ambassador helped pave my way to my part-time employment in Student Services,” he said.

In 2016, he graduated from Elkin High School. After playing baseball at Lenoir-Rhyne University during his freshman year, he came back home to get an Automotive Systems Technology degree through SCC. He was on the President's List for both the 2017-2018 and the 2018-2019 school years.

“I graduated from that program in the spring of 2019, and I will receive A.A. and A.S. degrees in the spring of 2020,” he said. “I plan to go get my B.S. through App State Online in CTE with a focus on Trade & Industry Education to complement my automotive degree.”

As a recent student, Brown has a fresh perception about his local community college.

“I would recommend Surry Community College to anyone who is interested in continuing their education. SCC offers one of the best learning environments available,” he said. “With caring faculty and staff along with smaller class sizes, students are given the best opportunities for success at a fraction of the cost when compared to four-year universities.”

My favorite set of movies is the Star Wars saga, and I like the shows: Friends, Counting Cars, and American Pickers.

Pets:

I have a furry sister named Bella. She is a 3-year-old border collie who enjoys belly rubs and playing tug-of-war with anything she can get her mouth on.

Hobbies:

I enjoy hunting and fishing, as well as antique cars/hot rods. In the summer, I like to go to local car shows in my 1966 Ford Mustang, which my grandmother bought new in Winston-Salem.

MLB: New York Yankees, NBA: LA Lakers, College Basketball: NC State
