Surry Community College is giving students the opportunity to take PSY 263 Educational Psychology in the fall as a seated class; it is usually only offered online in the summer.
Psychology and Sociology Instructor Heather Willard is the instructor.
“This is a course that is great for future educators or anybody interested in taking a specialty course in psychology as an elective, ” Willard said.
The class will be held Aug. 15 through Dec. 13. The seated class will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. beginning Aug. 15 through Dec. 13 on the Dobson campus.

This course examines the application of psychological theories and principles to the educational process and setting. Topics include learning and cognitive theories, achievement motivation, teaching and learning styles, teacher and learner roles, assessment, and developmental issues. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the application of psychological theory to educational practice.

The course is approved for transfer under the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement as a pre-major/elective course for those students who make a “C ” in the class and plan to transfer to a four-year university.
