College Programs Recognized for Excellence

Many Surry Community College programs were recognized for 100 percent pass rates for first-time state licensure examinations or for other areas of excellence.

The N.C. Criminal Justice Standards Division announced the 2022 results of the Standards Examination for SCC Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) students. Students in the Daytime Program of BLET achieved a passing rate of 100 percent for first-time test takers.

The Detention Officer Training Program students also achieved a 100 percent pass rate for first-time test takers on the State of N.C. Criminal Justice Standards Division Examination for the sixth consecutive year.

The Basic Radar Operator Certification students also achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the N.C. Criminal Justice Standards Division Speed Measurement Instrument Examination for classes taught in February 2022, June 2022, July 2022, October 2022, and April 2023.

Students in the N.C. Telecommunicator Certification courses of May 2022 and April 2023 achieved a passing rate of 100 percent for first-time test takers on the exam.

BLET Director Jim McHone was presented with four resolutions of recognition for these achievements from the SCC Board of Trustees by SCC President Dr. Shockley during the SCC Spring 2023 Faculty/Staff meeting.

The N.C. Board of Cosmetic Arts announced the 2022 Cosmetology State Board Results for SCC. The SCC Cosmetology program students have achieved a passing rate of 100 percent for first-time test takers on the Cosmetology licensure exam for the third consecutive year.

Lead Cosmetology Instructor Robin Minton accepted a resolution of recognition from the SCC Board of Trustees presented by SCC President Dr. David Shockley during the SCC Spring 2023 Faculty/Staff meeting.

The N.C. Department of Public Instruction announced for the academic year of 2021-2022, Surry Early College High School had a 100 percent graduation rate, surpassing the state average of 86 percent. SECHS also was awarded a letter grade of “A” by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction. The criterion for achieving this letter grade includes meeting and exceeding the highest level of overall performance, academic growth, and meeting federal performance requirements.
