CARES Act Funding Application for Spring 2020 Students

Posted: Aug 13, 2020

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress with overwhelming, bipartisan support and signed into law by President Trump on March 27, 2020. This over $2 trillion economic relief provides fast and direct economic assistance for American workers, families, and small businesses, and preserve jobs for American industries.

Surry Community College signed and returned the Certification and Agreement with the Department of Education to distribute CARES Act Stimulus funding. The College will distribute no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Assistance to students. The College received $1,433,250.00 from the CARES Act Stimulus funding. As of August 31, 2020 Surry Community College has distributed $314,166.00 to 464 students who qualified from a group of 1,142 eligible Federal Aid Recipients.

If you were a Spring 2020 curriculum student enrolled in seated classes, you may be eligible for the CARES Act Stimulus funding, an award up to $1,000 per student. Eligible students must have been enrolled in seated spring semester 2020 classes at Surry Community College on or before March 13, 2020.

Students seeking this funding should complete a 2019-20 FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa, , if you have not yet done so. If you were awarded financial aid in the spring, or if you completed the 2019-20 FAFSA, you must complete the “Request for CARES Act Funds” form in the student form section on https://myknightlife.surry.edu/.
