Business Technologies Open House on March 5 in Dobson


Event Time: 4 to 7 p.m.

Event Location: V-Building, Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson, NC 27017

Surry Community College will be holding a Business Technologies Open House for prospective students on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the V-Building, on the Dobson campus. Enter a $250 scholarship drawing and get help with your college application and financial aid at the event.

This open house is a great way to explore educational opportunities at Surry Community College. 

Adults who are thinking about attending college or seeking additional credentials should come to the open house. Additionally, high school students interested in Career & College Promise tuition-free, dual enrollment opportunities for their junior and senior years are encouraged to attend, along with students who will be graduating from high school this year.  

In case of inclement weather, the open house will be rescheduled to Thursday, March 7, 2019.

New in Fall 2019

Starting in Fall 2019, Surry is offering a new online Medical Billing and Insurance Certificate as a part of the Medical Office Administration program. To earn the certificate a student must complete six classes: Fall classes – OST-131 Keyboarding; OST-148 Medical Insurance and Billing; and MED-121 Medical Terminology I. Spring classes – MED-122 Medical Terminology II; OST-247 Procedure Coding; and OST-248 Diagnostic Coding. OST-247 and OST-248 are brand new classes at Surry.  

The Paralegal Technology program also has two changes effective Fall 2019. Two Paralegal Technology certificates are available to high school juniors and seniors through the Career & College Promise tuition-free, dual enrollment program starting in Fall 2019. High school juniors and seniors now have the opportunity to take classes to earn the Paralegal Technology Certificate Real Property Concentration or the Paralegal Technology Certificate Litigation Concentration.   

The Paralegal Technology Certificate Real Property Concentration requires six classes. For the Fall semester: LEX-110 Introduction to Paralegal; LEX-120 Legal Research & Writing I; and LEX-210 Real Property I. For the Spring semester: LEX 150 Commercial Law; LEX-211 Real Property II; and LEX-250 Wills, Trusts, Estates.  

The Paralegal Technology Certificate Litigation Concentration requires six classes and is a new certificate for Surry, as well as a new Career and College Promise certificate offering. For the Fall semester: LEX-240 Family Law; LEX-120 Legal Research & Writing I; and LEX-160 Criminal Law. For the Spring semester: LEX-130 Civil Injuries; LEX-140 Civil Litigation I; and LEX-280 Ethics.

Summer 2019/Fall 2019 Class Registration

  • Current student registration begins April 1. 
  • New student registration begins April 8.
  • Summer 2019 classes start May 20.
  • Deadline to register for Fall 2019 classes is Aug. 2.
  • Fall 2019 classes begin Aug. 15.
