Surry Community College will be offering several kinds of automobile repair classes in May.
A new class, Automotive Refrigerant Heating/Air Update & Required Certification Training will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays, May 20 through June 24 from 8 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. The class will offer training for Section 609 credentials required by the U.S. EPA in order to purchase R-134a and R-1234yf refrigerants in containers 2 pounds or larger. The class will take place in Room V-122, Surry Community College, 630 S. Main Street, Dobson. Space is limited. Pre-registration and payment of $183 (N.C. and Virginia residents) is required by May 13. There is a $19.95 testing fee. For more information or to register, call (336) 386-3618. Collision Repair and Refinishing (Autobody Repair & Restoration) will be offered at three different times. The first offering is on Monday and Wednesday, May 20 through Aug. 6 from 8 to 11 a.m. on Mondays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays. The second class time is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 21 through Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon. The third class time is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, May 21 through Aug. 1 from 6 to 10 p.m.
The Collision Repair and Refinishing classes prepare individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, reconstruct and finish automobile bodies, fenders, and external features. The classes are held in Room B-102, Surry Community College, 630 S. Main Street, Dobson. Pre-registration and payment of $183 are required. There is a $15 supply fee. Small Engine Repair will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, May 20 through Aug. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Room V-113, Surry Community College, 630 S. Main Street, Dobson. The student will learn how to disassemble engines and check for manufacturer's specifications and reassemble. Emphasis will be placed on the proper use of tools and testing equipment. Upon completion students will be able to explain operating principles of engines, name major parts of engines, work safely in the shop, and troubleshoot, service, and repair various configurations of small engines.
