102 Surry-Yadkin Works Pre-Apprentices Sign with Companies for Employment

Forty-six Surry-Yadkin Works pre-apprentices signed on to work part-time, full-time, or as apprentices with partnering companies in a job signing ceremony hosted by Surry Community College in the Dobson campus gymnasium on June 11. In earlier job signing events, 56 student signed job offers from Hugh Chatham Health and Northern Regional Hospital.

SCC President Dr. David Shockley provided opening remarks for the event. He spoke on the Surry-Yadkin Works program founding and successes.

Crystal Folger-Hawks, Surry-Yadkin Works Executive Director, announced each pre-apprentice signing with their company along with a brief description of each pre-apprentices’ accomplishments.

The companies and pre-apprentice mentors were also given a moment to reflect on their time with their pre-apprentice and the Surry-Yadkin Works program.

Luke Freeman and Samuel Poteat, recent graduates of Mount Airy High School, and Octavio Joaquin-Torres, recent graduate of Yadkin Early College High School, were hired as part-time employees at Altec. Jackson Graves, recent graduate of North Surry High School, as well as Quentin Collins and Sean McCain, recent graduates of East Surry High School, were hired at Altec as assembly apprentices. Edward “Trae” Radford, recent graduate of North Surry High School, and Ethan Slater, recent graduate of East Surry High School, were hired as welding apprentices at Altec.

Israel Guerrero, recent graduate of Starmount High School, accepted a position at Austin Electrical Enclosures as a welding apprentice.

Aaron Caudle, recent graduate of Elkin High School, was hired as a Maintenance Technician at B&G Foods, Inc.

Chezney Norman, recent graduate of Forbush High School, has accepted a position as a human resources assistant at Carolina Custom Transportation.

Recent graduate of East Surry High School, Chazity Rodriguez was hired in the Family Services Department at the Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina.

Kathy Moran, recent graduate of Mount Airy High School, was hired by LazerEdge as a fulfillment specialist.

Abram Gammons, recent graduate of North Surry High School, was hired as a construction assistant at Lee Mills Construction Co. Inc.

Elorah Gillespie, recent graduate of Surry Early College High School, has accepted a graphic design and marketing position with Leonard.

Emily Bruner, recent graduate of North Surry High School, was hired as an after school and summer teacher with Mount Airy Parks & Recreation. Bruner also accepted a position with Surry County Schools as a teacher apprentice.

Recent graduate of East Surry High School, Kiya Inman was hired as a teacher assistant at Mount Pilot Child Enrichment Center.

Mountain Valley Hospice offered Emily Hodgson, recent graduate of Elkin High School, Karla Mondragon, recent graduate of Starmount High School, and Kaylee Thomas, recent graduate of East Surry High School positions as certified nursing assistant apprentices.

Ormidalia Maya-Arroyo, recent graduate of Yadkin Early College High School, and Allie Reynolds, recent graduate of Starmount High School, were hired as teacher assistants at Small Folks Child Care.

Madison Jones, recent graduate of North Surry High School, was hired as a welder at Smith-Rowe, LLC. Noe Lugo-Ruiz, recent graduate of North Surry High School, accepted a position in construction at Smith-Rowe, LLC.

Brianna Wilcox, recent graduate of Starmount High School, accepted a position as a vet tech at State Road Animal Hospital.

Recent graduate of Yadkin Early College High School, Chloe Faulkner has accepted a position as a marketing assistant at Surry Community College.

Madison Spencer, recent graduate of Surry Central High School, was hired at Surry County EMS as a paramedic apprentice.

Ryan Venable, recent graduate of Mount Airy High School, accepted a position with Surry County Government in the finance office.

Madison Angel and Mattie Everett, recent graduates of North Surry High School, were hired as teacher apprentices at Surry County Schools. Recent graduate of Surry Central High School,

Kayla Wall was also hired by Surry County Schools as a teacher apprentice.

Recent graduates of Surry Early College High School, Yanet Alvarado and Carolina Antunez accepted positions as office assistants with Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation. Lenin Ortiz-Lara and James Steele, recent graduates of Elkin High School, were also hired by Surry-Yadkin Electric Membership Corporation as warehouse/lineman employees.

Alexis Williams, recent graduate of Elkin High School, was hired as a program assistant at The Ark.

Isaiah Daniel Galyean, recent graduate of Surry Central High School, accepted a position with Watson Metals Company as a welder.

Recent graduate of Surry Online Magnet School, Neely Sizemore was hired as a teacher assistant apprentice at White Plains Baptist Child Care.

Recent graduate of Yadkin Early College High School, Charlie Baldwin was hired as an IT/MIS technician at Yadkin County Government MIS. Paulina Cruz-Martinez, recent graduate of Yadkin Early College High School, was hired by the Yadkin County Animal Shelter to do marketing and web design. Alexander Rodriguez, recent graduate of Yadkin Early College High School, was hired as a transportation coordinator with Yadkin County Human Services.

Kadence Osborne and Randy Santiago, recent graduates of Starmount High School, were hired as teacher apprentices with Jonesville Elementary School. Recent graduate of Starmount High School, Allie Reynolds was hired by West Yadkin Elementary School as a teacher apprentice. Ella Vanhoy, recent graduate of Starmount High School, was hired as an early childhood apprentice at West Yadkin Elementary School.

At previous job signing events, 15 students recently signed for full or part-time employment with Hugh Chatham Health, and 41 students signed for employment with Northern Regional Hospital.
