The following topics are available: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents. Upon completion of these topics, students may sign up for the Work Keys Assessment to earn the National Career Readiness Certificate.

Applied Technology topics are available in the following areas: Problem-Solving Strategies, Electricity, Fluid Dynamics, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Business Writing, and Workplace Observation.

Essential Skills topics are available in the following areas: Customer Service, Financial Awareness, Interpersonal & Business Communication, Problem Solving & Critical Thinking, Work Discipline, and Working in Teams.

Law Enforcement: Radar Only Recertification 0003 - 02

Radar Operator Recertification is a program offered under the rules and regulations of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and requires 100% attendance of the minimal instructional hours. This class is for those who are Radar certified or those who are within their 12 months grace period. Each individual participant must bring a current SMI Operator Manual for their area of certification and all Supplements (currently January 2022) or an updated edition will be furnished and the department billed and a vehicle equipped with a RADAR unit in which they are seeking certification. Officers who are field testing on units equipped with front and rear antenna must be prepared to test on the full operation of the unit.

Each individual must email a copy of their current certification to mchonej@surry.edu or bring a copy for filing the first day of class.

Basic Lidar Operator Certification is a Commissioned recognized course of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. Law Enforcement: Surviving The First Three Seconds 0010 - 01

This is a one day session from 8 AM-5PM on the campus of the Surry Community College Yadkin Center. The session presenter is Retired Master Trooper Kirk Hensley of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol who developed the program and has presented his program at various locations across the United States. The training is designed to help officers at all stages in their career survive encounters with potential threats.

It is a course that provides a roadmap to better communication with people who are trying to make decisions while under duress. This course incorporates the psychology of human decision-making.
