Program Overview

This 5-month Pharmacy Technician Certificate course is designed to provide instruction in the technical procedures for preparing and dispensing drugs in the hospital and retail settings under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Employment Opportunities:

Upon completion of this course, individuals should be able to apply for positions in both hospital and retail pharmacies.

Instructional Format: Hybrid. Some face-to-face class meetings as well as online instruction.

Learning Outcomes

Pharmacy Technician students will:

  • Assist the pharmacist in serving patients.
  • Maintain medication and inventory control systems.
  • Participate in the administration and management of pharmacy practice.
  • Be proficient on the laws and regulations relating to pharmacy practice.
  • Perform the duties of the pharmacy technician in both retail and institutional settings.
  • Be proficient in drug classifications.
  • Be proficient in pharmaceutical abbreviations, measurements and calculations.

Program Costs

Cost: $183 plus associated books, tools, and supplies

Virginia residents pay the same tuition rate as in-state students.
