Program Overview

This 24-hour Medication Aide Certification course is designed to meet the training requirements for becoming qualified as a Medication Aide. Upon completion, students should be able to take the competency exam and demonstrate the skills necessary to qualify for listing on the North Carolina Medication Aide Registry.

Employment Opportunities:

Upon completion of this course, individuals should be able to apply for positions that utilize Medication Aides such as hospitals and skilled facilities.

Instructional Format: Hybrid. Some face-to-face class meetings as well as online instruction.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the role of a Medication Aide.
  • Explain the expectations and limitations of the role of a Medication Aide.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and safety in preparation of medications.
  • Use the six rights to administer oral, topical, eye, ear, inhalant, vaginal and rectal medications.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in ready medication labels.
  • Demonstrate the use of Medication Administration Records (MAR's).
  • Identify proper action to take when special circumstances occur in relation to medication administration.

Program Costs

Cost: $71 plus associated books, tools, and supplies

Virginia residents pay the same tuition rate as in-state students.
