Program Overview

This certification covers the NFPA 1035 Standard for Fire and Life Safety Educator Professional Qualifications, Current Edition.

Employment Opportunities:

Upon completion of this certification, individuals will be able to function and apply for positions as a credentialed fire and life safety educator in the State of North Carolina.

Instructional Format: Face-to-face class meetings to include lecture, demonstration and hands-on practice and simulation of scenarios.

Learning Outcomes

Firefighter students will:

  • Learn to operate safely and effectively on an emergency incident.
  • Participate as a member of a team to educate the public and special needs groups about fire safety in the home and workplace.
  • Perform the duties of a Fire and Life Safety Educator in the State of North Carolina.

Program Costs

Cost: $70 to $125 per individual class depending upon the length of the class.

Members of approved North Carolina fire departments and rescue squads are eligible to receive tuition waivers for these classes.

Virginia residents pay the same tuition rate as in-state students.
