Program Overview

This course introduces construction materials and methodologies. Topics include construction terminology, traditional and alternative materials and their properties, manufacturing processes, construction techniques, and other related topics. The course also introduces the theory and construction methods associated with the building industry, including framing, materials, tools, and equipment. Topics include safety, hand/power tool use, site preparation, measurement and layout, footings and foundations, construction framing, and other related topics.

Employment Opportunities:

Upon completion of this course, individuals should be able to apply for positions with construction companies/contractors or work independently as a carpenter.

Instructional Format: Face-to-face class meetings to include lecture, demonstration, and hands-on practice and simulation of scenarios.

Cost: $183 plus associated books, tools, and supplies

Virginia residents pay the same tuition rate as in-state students.
