Free SBC Seminars Announced for March

Surry Community College’s Small Business Center will be holding free seminars and workshops in March at various locations in Surry and Yadkin counties.

Bootcamp Basics for Beginner Nonprofits will take place on Wednesday, March 1 from 9 a.m. to noon in the J Building at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. This workshop will offer a comprehensive checklist of things that must be done in the first three years of starting a non-profit organization in order to lay the foundation for longevity and success. Participants will learn about key documentation and legal processes to ensure that a business is compliant and following all proper procedures in order to legally operate and solicit funds at the local, state, and federal level. Speaker Amanda Pearce will reveal the best practices to build an ideal timeline for a business’s development and provide those in attendance with a greater understanding of how components of development can impact sustainability.

How to Write a Business Plan will be the topic of a seminar on Tuesday, March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Yadkin Center, 1001 College Drive, Yadkinville. A business plan can be the most important tool a small business owner has. Learn how to turn an idea into a solid concept for financing and long-term professional success. This seminar teaches the important components of a business plan and helps attendants lay the foundation for a winning plan. Find out how marketing, operations, and finance are related and discover the dos and don’ts of writing a business plan step by step with Speaker Ruben Gonzales.

Small Business Taxes will be the subject of a workshop on Tuesday, March 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Yadkin Center, 1001 College Drive, Yadkinville. Small business tax reporting can be intimidating and confusing, but Speaker Dean Kanipe is an accountant with the experience and industry knowledge necessary to explain the basics of trust taxes and income taxes as they relate to a small business. Topics include sales tax compliance, the basics of payroll taxes, and how income from various types of business entities is taxed.

The Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce is the sponsor for seminars held in Dobson and Elkin. The Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the seminars held in Yadkin County.
