Emergency Medical Services, or EMS, is an exciting career choice that provides individuals with an opportunity in a health career with expanded borders. For students wishing to become credentialed as EMS providers in North Carolina, Surry Community College offers certificate programs through Corporate and Continuing Education, which include Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Paramedic.
EMS providers are trained to provide emergency care to sick and injured patients outside of medical facilities and hospitals. These technicians assess the individual's situation and provide appropriate treatment while operating within the strict medical guidelines of each certification level. The EMT Basic course is generally the gateway course for entering into the EMS profession.
